Scrimba Explain turns a question into a narrated slide lesson that builds while you watch, and you can ask for one in the middle of a ChatGPT conversation. Chasca turns a prompt, a document or a recording into a narrated whiteboard video, drawn stroke by stroke, that you can download as an MP4 on every plan. Choose Scrimba Explain for quick lessons inside ChatGPT and, above all, for explaining code. Choose Chasca when the video goes out to a class, a course or a channel: in your own voice, in 79 languages, up to 30 minutes long and with your logo.

We make Chasca, so read this with that in mind. Every claim about Scrimba Explain links to Scrimba’s own documentation, which we checked on 3 November 2026. Explain is changing fast, so check its pages again before you choose.

What is Scrimba Explain?

Scrimba Explain makes what it calls explainers. According to Scrimba’s docs:

  • What you get: a sequence of slides with spoken narration, built for you and rendered live while you watch. The slides hold typed content: code the narration points into, diffs, diagrams, animations, images, formulas in math notation and quizzes.
  • Where you ask for one: on scrimba.com/explain, in ChatGPT and Codex with the @Explain Video Generator plugin, from Claude Code and other MCP tools, on GitHub pull requests, or with a Chrome extension.
  • In ChatGPT: the model you’re chatting with writes the lesson and the narration, and the explainer opens on scrimba.com. It’s square unless you ask for another shape, and unlisted, so anyone with the link can watch it; you claim it to keep it in your Scrimba account.
  • Languages: narration in 33 languages; in any other, the slides follow your language and the voice falls back to English.
  • Limits: one explainer without an account, five with a free account for the life of the account, and 100 a month on Pro. Explainers a connected tool makes count only once you claim them.
  • Download: an MP4 with a VTT subtitles file, on Pro.

Where is Scrimba Explain the better choice?

  • You’re already in ChatGPT. Install the plugin once and ask for a lesson mid-conversation, about the topic you’re discussing: the model that worked it out with you writes it. Chasca connects to ChatGPT only in Business and Enterprise workspaces, as a custom MCP server (MCP setup).
  • Code. Explain started with code. Its slides show your real code with the narration pointing into it, and diffs, and Claude Code, Codex or a GitHub Action can turn a branch or a pull request into a walkthrough. Chasca can write a code excerpt line by line, but it isn’t built for walking through a codebase.
  • Lessons viewers take part in. A quiz answered right on the slide, Go deeper to turn a question into a new explainer, playlists for a whole curriculum, and a player you can embed on your own site.
  • Edits in plain words. Type what should change, and Explain rewrites, adds, deletes or reorders slides: three edits per explainer on a free account, unlimited on Pro. In Chasca, a different script makes a new video.

Where is Chasca the better choice?

  • A video to publish, on every plan. Download an MP4 with SRT and VTT subtitles, even on the free plan, in landscape, vertical or square. In Explain, downloads come with Pro.
  • Your own voice and your own words. Narrate in a custom voice made from about a minute of reading, on every plan (custom voices), or attach a recording and tick Use as the narration (your voiceover). Paste a script and it’s spoken word for word (your own script). Explain writes the lesson from your question and files, and picks the voice.
  • The whiteboard look. Every drawing appears stroke by stroke as the narrator names it, in six drawing styles, with a drawing hand if you want one (drawing hand).
  • More languages, and math right to left. Chasca narrates in 79 languages. Its diagrams are computed exactly, and in Arabic, equations in Arabic-Indic digits are written right to left (Arabic math lessons).
  • Long lessons with your brand. Up to 30 minutes on paid plans, told in chapters; from Pro, your logo, colors, font and a credit line on every scene (branding).

Which should you choose?

If you… Choose
Want a quick lesson in the middle of a ChatGPT conversation Scrimba Explain
Need to explain code, a pull request or a codebase Scrimba Explain
Want viewers to answer quizzes and ask follow-up questions Scrimba Explain
Publish videos to a class, a course or a channel Chasca
Want narration in your own voice, or your script word for word Chasca
Teach in a language beyond Explain’s 33, or teach math in Arabic Chasca

Can you use both?

Yes. Work a topic out in ChatGPT, watch a quick Explain lesson on it, then ask ChatGPT for a narration script and paste it on Chasca’s Create page. The script is spoken word for word, scene by scene, and drawn on a whiteboard in the voice you pick (your own script).
