बारिश थमते ही आसमान में रंगों का धनुष क्यों दिखता है? सोचो, हर बूँद एक नन्ही, गोल काँच की खिड़की है। सूरज की रोशनी तो सफ़ेद दिखती है। फिर इस खिड़की से गुज़रकर आसमान में इतने रंग कहाँ से आते हैं?
सूरज की सफ़ेद रोशनी में कई रंग मिले होते हैं। गोल खिड़की जैसी बूँद में घुसते ही रोशनी मुड़ती है। हर रंग थोड़ा अलग मुड़ता है। बूँद के भीतर रोशनी पीछे की ओर पलटती है और बाहर निकलते समय फिर मुड़ती है। अलग-अलग बूँदों से अलग रंग तुम्हारी आँख तक पहुँचते हैं।
धूप वाले दिन फुहारा देखो: सूरज तुम्हारी पीठ के पीछे हो और पानी सामने, तो छोटी बूँदों में भी रंग दिख सकते हैं। वह गोल काँच की खिड़की याद है? रोशनी उसमें मुड़ती, पलटती और फिर मुड़ती है। इंद्रधनुष कैसे बनता है? बूँदें सूरज की रोशनी मोड़कर, पलटकर रंग अलग करती हैं।
